While traveling I stayed in a place where I slept on futon pad w/frame. I needed something to go on top of the hard pad. I first bought 6 in of foam (arrived in 2 pieces). The foam eventually was a pain and became flatter and curled on the edges. I decided to buy this mattress hoping it was better than the foam. I was pleasantly surprised. I like the pressure packaging which made it easy for me to get the box in the apt and setup by myself. The smell wasn't bad to me, but everyone has their own opinion. I put the mattress on top of the futon pad and even though not fully inflated slept on it the first night. I slept through the night. I am a large person, so I was skeptical about sinking into the "foam" mattress. I am very curvy and I generally sleep on my back. It contours to my body but I am able to re-position to lay on my side. I have had the full size 7 months now and it is still in great shape. I feel I have already gotten my $$ worth. I liked it so much I sent it home and now use it for an extra bed in the house.
